About the event
Secondary and vicarious trauma is common in helping professions, particularly those on the frontline of social care working with traumatised populations. Counsellors at the UN World Food Programme are responsible for the mental wellbeing of staff and, having lost a significant amount of funding in US budget cuts, the ground beneath their feet is unstable and their future uncertain. This brings with it, not just the risk of secondary trauma from their work but acute anxiety and long term stress over their professional and personal futures.
